The mumbai chills......

Temperatures in mumbai falling below 10 degree celsius? Something i couldn't even imagine up till a couple of weeks ago. Well now that it actually has happened, i was thinking how to deal with it. Because, mumbai is NOT ready for it. I for one, am absolutely not ready!

Early morning, traveling through train, i realized how relevant this was. All people in their costume to beat the chills; sweaters, shawls, etc. etc....n me? in full-sleeve [good for nothing] chiffon clothes. And as i don't have too many of them, [and i don't do my laundry regularly] after 3-4 days, back 2 sleeve-lesses and comfy [ha ha!] cottons. I hate sweaters, and hate is not a word i use often. Also because it takes me time to get accustomed to new things, and when i get accustomed, there is no need to be used to it. Shivering top to bottom, as my clothes flew all over the place, adding to the cold; Me getting all numb [nose being the 1st thing 2 catch the chill]; People giving me dark stares; some wondering about my resistance, some about my stupidity. My body cells have become so hyperactive ever since, that now i get goose-bumps for absolutely anything!!

Don't blame me for it. How am I suppose to react if my city's weather suddenly decides to go to an extreme? No gloves, shawls, no suitable footwear. Thank-god i am used to wearing socks everyday!

Well, I blame the most heard term during summers, yes, 'global warming' for it. Lame men might say, good, its cold; helps fight against global warming. Little do they know about green house gases. Just because it is called "global warming", it is not only about increasing heat.
The earth has its own mechanisms for regulating the weather conditions, which are reflected by temperatures. These act by means of winds. If the mechanism collapses, temperatures will rise in summer, yes, but when degrees fall in winters, atmosphere is incapable of bouncing back to normal. How do I know this? AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH by Al Gore. And for people who say that temperatures of mumbai are going low perennially, all i have to say is this.
Temperatures in winters will fall, but in summer shall rise. And if it is falling below all expectations, yea, u guessed it right........
As a result, after a couple of years, we will be like, Oh! i just miss the ideal mumbai weather...
We shouldn't crib about it, I agree. All i have to say is, don't be ignorant either.

So what measures should we take against it? As of now, face the freezing colds, that is quite a big deal by itself.
And for the long run, [at the risk of sounding like a parrot] COMBAT GLOBAL WARMING!

Ahhh... the cold!
I really hate winters. It's like something that sucks life out of you. But I am accustomed to much lower temperatures than these, and hence it doesn't suck for me.
Moreover, due to a certain event (check out: http://iitbalok.blogspot.com/2007/12/longest-day-of-my-life-yet.html)
, I brought along my protective clothing this semester!

But speaking of the supposed cause, Global Warming is a serious problem. Al Gore convinced me, too. And well, there shall come a time when we would have to take desperate measures like stopping electricity production (that is the major source of greenhouse gases) and vehicular pollution (another major contributor). But, I cannot think of a solution as yet. Maybe it will come soon, and will not be as horrible as I think it would be.

well.....the climate is changing and it is because of global warming....

now the sad part is ...u cant stop this from happening...u can some how slow it down though...
honestly.....unless n until a couple o million people die because of it.....no 1s goin to do nething about it...

@ Nilesh

I completely agree with you. You gave voice to my thoughts. Maybe there is a solution out there, waiting to be found......
What we need to do is support the search for a solution. At the same time, stop wasting energy (though, as you said, it won't help much, but at least it'll slow things down).

The only way to be able to stop the damage done, I think, is to stop everything right now. No electricity, no vehicles... I know it sounds stupid, and it can't be done. But I can't think of any other way.

oo, well. my take.
Alok, u blame electricity production 2 b 1 of the major sources for global warming. I beg to differ. For me, the top position goes to deforestation, then pollution, yea vehicular traffic included. Also, waste [excessive use] of resources, both renewable n non-renewable.
Maybe thermal or nuclear power stnd do affect the atmosphere. But hydro-electricity? n a considerable part of india's power comes from there, hmm...

Prolly finding alternate sources of energy is a solution. There is awareness, but high time we convert it into a mass movement. And yea, u n me alone can do nothing at all.....

Thanks for commenting. :)

@ Express

Well, "pollution" includes all sources of pollution, and thermal power plants top the list. 67% of India's energy is produced by these inefficient monsters (their efficiency remains limited to at best, 40%).

Deforestation, is a factor, yes, but do you really think that having trees would have reduced all CO2 levels produced by power plants?

NO, too much invasion by man in the eco-system. As they say, excess of anything is not good.

Well there is no one cause, this is a combined effect of too many things.

Everyone takes notice of the increasing/fluctuating temperatures. What saddens me is the extinction of several plant and animal species, loss of several natural spots, degradation of the entire atmosphere. Shall the earth ever be a better place to live?
